<br><br><br><br>--------------------------------------------------------------------<br>아래는 성원용님께서 작성하신 글입니다.<br>--------------------------------------------------------------------<br><br><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;"> “<b>불가능을 일소(一笑)에 부치고</b>”, 이것은 장로회 신학대학교 김도일 교수님의 연구실을 방문했다가 발견한 감동적인 문구이다. 이것은 20대의 젊은 나이로 조선에 들어와 조선인들을 위하여 복음을 전하고 교회와 학교를 세우며 선교한 호레이스 언더우드와 그 가문의 가훈이라고 한다.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;">이 가훈의 전문은 다음과 같다. “<b>불가능을 일소에 부치고 그것이 반드시 이루어질 것이라고 말하라, Laugh at impossibilities and say it shall be done!</b>”</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;">이것은 인생을 살아가면서 크고 작은 장애와 어려움을 만날 때마다, 불가능해 보이는 장벽 앞에 설 때마다, 그 상황을 향하여 크게 한번 웃어 버리고, 비전을 선포하며 포기 없이 전진하라는 말이다.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;">언더우드가 들어온 1884년은 그야말로 어려움으로 가득한 땅이었다. 가난, 질병, 불결한 환경, 관리들의 부패, 외세의 침략, 백성들의 나약한 정신 등 최악의 상황이었다. 사역자로서 얼마나 많은 절망과 불가능을 느꼈을까! 그러나 그는 그런 일을 만날 때마다 크게 한번 웃어 버리고 비전을 선포하며 전진하여 놀라운 역사를 이루어 냈다.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;">사노라면 이런 저런 어려운 일들을 만나는 것은 불가피하다. 그 누구도 장미 정원의 평지만을 걸으며 살수 없다. 오히려 그런 인생은 밋밋하고 지루할 뿐이다. 좋은 일에 더 많은 방해와 장애물이 있다. 사명을 감당하려 할 때 마귀의 교묘한 공격을 받게 된다. 그럴 때마다 마음이 무너진다. “할 수 없을 것 같다. 불가능하다”는 먹구름이 마음에 밀려온다. 여기에 밀리면 끝장이다.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;"> </span><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;">그럴 때면, 불가능을 일소에 부치고, 대장부처럼 당당히 서서 “대저 주의 말씀은 능치 못함이 없다”고 외치며 앞으로 나가야겠다. 그때 기묘자(wonder)이신 주께서 놀라운 일(wonderful things)을 행하실 것이다. 그것을 세상 사람들은 기적(miracle)일 일어났다고 놀라워할 것이다. </span></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: right;"><span style="font-family: Gulim; font-size: 16px;">여러분을 섬기는 종 <b><span style="font-size: 18px;">성원용</span></b></span></div><div><br /></div>
